January Favorites 2020

*:・゚✧ Reading Time | 8 min 44 sec ✧・゚:*

Hi everyone~ I can't believe it's February... Σ(゜ロ゜;) The first month of 2020 is already gone... I can tell this is going to be another quick year. And we're already in week 2 of February...

Something that I've always loved was reading or watching people's monthly favorites. I wanted to do my own for as long as I can remember, so I decided now would be a good time to start! Sorry if this isn't quite like other monthly favorites, I don't really know that I'm doing. I don't really consider myself a connoisseur or an expert of anything, so this is all purely my opinions and the things that I did during the month of January that I enjoyed!

♡ Book: The Assassin's Blade & Throne of Glass ♡

The Assassin's Blade is a collection of novellas and a prequel to the Throne of Glass series. I read the first 2 books and half of the 3rd several years ago and I loved them! I stopped reading in general around that time so I never finished the series, but I decided recently that I want to finish it; and what better place to start than with the prequel. I'm not sure what the exact order should be when you read this series, but I will say I knew kind of what was going to happen because I read a few of the other books. It didn't make me enjoy it any less though. I've currently started re-reading the official first book in the series titled Throne of Glass and I am loving it just as much as I did during my first read through a few years ago!

The series is about a female assassin named Caelena Sardothian. She is one of the most feared assassin in all of the kingdom of Ardalan. If you like fantasy and strong female characters then I think you will like this series! I remember I first picked this up because the cover of Throne of Glass reminded me of Katarina from League of Legends and Kat was my main at that time. I'm not very good at writing a synopsis of books or movies that I've watched because I don't want to spoil anything! I'll just include the actual blurb from the back of the book in case you are intrigued and want to know more before you decide to read!

The Assassin's Blade Synopsis

Celaena Sardothien is her kingdom's most feared assassin. Though she works for the powerful and ruthless Assassin's Guild, Celaena yields to no one and trusts only her fellow killer for hire, Sam.
When Celaena's scheming master, Arobynn Hamel, dispatches her on missions that take her from remote islands to hostile deserts, she finds herself acting independently of his wishes-and questioning her own allegiance. Along the way, she makes friends and enemies alike, and discovers that she feels far more for Sam than just friendship. But by defying Arobynn's orders, Celaena risks unimaginable punishment, and with Sam by her side, he is in danger, too. They will have to risk it all if they hope to escape Arobynn's clutches-and if they fail, they'll lose not just a chance at freedom, but their lives . . .

♡ Anime: Asteroid in Love & Engaged to the Unidentified ♡

Asteroid in Love is a new anime airing this Winter 2020 season. Only 5 episodes have aired so far but that was enough for it to make this list. It's a slice of life comedy about cute girls in the earth sciences club! It has a ton of astronomy in it and I absolutely love astronomy and space. That was genuinely the only class I paid attention in when I was in college. It has really cute and loveable characters and is a great watch if you like cute girls doing cute things.

Asteroid in Love Synopsis

When she was little, Mira Kinohata met a boy named Ao at a campsite in town. While gazing at the starry sky together, Mira learns that there's a star with the same name as herself, but no star named Ao. The two then promised to one day explore asteroids together and find a star to name it after him.

Several years later, Mira enrolls at the Hoshizaki high school and decides to join the astronomy club to fulfill her promise. However, she learns that the astronomy club will be merged with the geological research society to form the earth science club. Reluctantly, Mira goes to the club room and is reunited with Ao Manaka—the person she made the promise to explore asteroids with—and is shocked to learn that she is a girl!

Engaged to the Unidentified is a show that actually came out in 2014. I didn't expect to like this show as much as I did, but I honestly fell in love with this show! It's a slice of life rom-com so I was bound to love it. The characters are all great and absolutely hilarious! My only problem is that I want to know more about the characters and what happened after 。゚(*´□`)゚。 They definitely could have made a second season or even a few more episodes, but I still love it regardless!

Engaged to the Unidentified Synopsis

Just an ordinary teenager, Kobeni Yonomori receives quite the surprise on her 16th birthday—a fiancé and a sister-in-law she never even knew she had. As a result of an arrangement that her late grandfather made, Hakuya Mitsumine and his younger sister Mashiro have moved from their countryside home to the Yonomori household in order to deepen their relationship with their new family members.

Mikakunin de Shinkoukei follows Kobeni's "love life" with Hakuya as she tries her best to adjust to the abrupt changes forced upon her. However, as some extraordinary secrets regarding the siblings come to light, Kobeni will find her life changed forever.

Both shows are available on Crunchyroll!~

♡ TV Show: The Good Place ♡

Josh and I started watching this on a whim because we needed a good comedy to watch before bed and we had just finished The Office and are all caught up on Brooklyn 99. I had watched the first 3 or 4 episodes when it first started airing but I had moved around that time and didn't watch TV anymore after that. I love this show so much. I'm only on season 3 and I know that the last season just finished airing so no spoilers! If you haven't watched this show, the writing is so genuinely good and funny it's hard not to like it honestly.

The Good Place Synopsis

When Eleanor Shellstrop finds herself in the afterlife, she's both relieved and surprised that she's made it into the Good Place. But it doesn't take long for Eleanor to realize she's there by mistake. She hides in plain sight from the Good Place's architect, Michael, and his all-knowing assistant, Janet. Her seemingly perfect neighbors, Tahani and Jason, and open-hearted soul mate, Chidi, help her realize that it's never too late to change. With the help of her new friends -- and a few enemies -- Eleanor becomes determined to shed her old way of life in hopes of discovering a new one in the afterlife.

Show is available on Hulu!~

♡ Game: Skyrim

As I mentioned in one of my previous posts, I have been playing a lot of Skyrim recently. It's been really nice to reconnect with one of my favorite games. My new spellsword playstyle has actually been really fun as well! I expected to struggle a lot (and I still struggle a little), but I've gotten the hang of things! I originally started as purely a mage but I felt that I was struggling too much when running out of Magicka, so I started using a one handed sword as well. My favorite spells are in conjuration. I love being able to summon a flame atronach and shoot fireballs while setting people on fire with my sword at the same time.

I started downloading mods back onto my PC as well and sort of started a playthrough of Sorn, but I probably only played an hour or less of that. I'm still trying to figure out what mods I want before I really start playing!

♡ App: Pocket Camp ♡

Pocket Camp is a game I always forget to play. Unless a big event that I really want the furniture from is happening, I forget about it. It's not because the game is bad or because I don't like it; it's because I'm genuinely never on my phone. But recently I have been trying my best to keep up with the game and remember it's existence and it's been a lot of fun!

Right now the garden event Reese's Sweet Nothings is going on and I just completed all the main tasks last night! It was too cute of a set that I couldn't help myself! I played like crazy! I can't resist candy themed items!

I'm really loving my current camp set up too! I made a Sakura themed Amusement Park! It makes me happy every time I see it!

♡ Youtube: レア イRhea Y. & AshSnapEm'

Lately I've really gotten into watching relaxing lifestyle vlog type videos. There have been a few that I really enjoy but レア イRhea Y. is probably my favorite. I love seeing her minimalistic lifestyle and it reminds me that there can be joy in simple things; which is something that I really want to embrace in my life. Her videos are also really relaxing and they are great for me to watch while I get ready for bed on workdays! If you are interested in cozy and soothing videos, i highly recommend checking out her channel!

AshSnapEm' has always been one of my favorite youtubers and I am lucky enough to call her one of my dearest friends. She makes super kawaii content and all of her videos are such a perfect aesthetic! A lot of her videos focus around Animal Crossing; her favorite game and one of my favorites too! She also does some things with Nintendo and Pokemon! All her videos are great quality too because she puts time and effort into them to make sure the sound and lighting and everything turns out nice! If you are a fan of cute things, Animal Crossing, or just want to watch videos from a cute, funny, and pretty girl, I highly recommend!!

Anyways- That's all I have for January! I hope some of these things peak your interest! I hope you all had a good start of your 2020 and continute to have a good time in the coming months!

Female Anime Characters I Aspire to be Like

*:・゚✧ Reading Time | 4 min 44 sec ✧・゚:*

I've been watching anime since I was a child, so it's something I have always been exposed to. Along the way there have been many characters that I've loved; but I feel like there are only a certain few who have shaped who I am and my ideals of how I want to be in life.

♡ Tohru Honda ♡

Fruits Basket has always been an important series in my life. I still vividly remember walking down the aisle of Borders (rest in peace to my favorite book store) and picking up volume one of the Fruits Basket manga in 2004. I also vividly remember reading volume two in a hotel room in Utah while my first Tamagotchi ran away into the sunset. I remember receiving the first two dvds of the anime for Christmas one year and the English dub of Fruits Basket has always been my go to show to watch when I am ill or not feeling well. Fruits Basket has been a constant in my life through the many times I have watched the show and re-read the manga. More importantly, Tohru Honda has always been important to me and my life.

Tohru is a character I have always wanted to be like. She is selfless, incredibly kind and hard working just to name a few of her good qualities. She goes above and beyond to make sure that everyone around her is happy and taken care of. Tohru is also incredibly brave; a quality that I know I lack. I am very timid and shy and while Tohru comes off that way at face value, it takes a lot of courage for her to stand up to people that are bullying others. She never does anything in a mean way, she does things in a kind and gentle way that make people see the error of their ways.

She shows love, kindness, and acceptance to every person she meets regardless of appearances or reputations. Tohru truly treasures every relationship she has in her life and is always thinking of others before herself which is a quality I have always admired and wanted to have. She finds meaning in every aspect of her life and isn't afraid to enjoy the simple happiness that she finds. I want to be as grateful, patient, and caring as she is, as well as the other qualities I've listed and more. I think she will always be a character I look up to and admire because she makes me want to be the best version of myself that I can be.

♡ Sawako Kuronuma

I didn't start watching Kimi ni Todoke until maybe a month ago and I'm a little sad it took me so long to get to this. I watch it everyday on my lunch break at work and it's so heartwarming!

Sawako is another incredibly kind character. With a motto of "One good deed a day" she quickly became a character I started to admire. I love the idea of doing at least one small kind act a day and it's something I want to adopt in my everyday life.

In every episode I have seen, Sawako is usually thinking of how everyone around her feels. It's hard for her to make friends due to her nervous nature which is something I can relate to; but the few friends she has she cherishes with all her heart. She also takes bliss in simple moments with her friends, such as even just getting to call her new friends by their "given name". She does chores and volunteers for things so others aren't troubled. She works hard in everything she does and tries her best no matter what. These are qualities that I admire immensely and want to improve on in my life.

I haven't finished this show so I feel like I can't fully comment on her character as a whole; but I have watched close to half and Sawako has already become a dear character to me.

♡ Yona

Yona has always been a big inspiration to me. She is a strong and fearless woman while also being caring and kind. Her growth as a character inspired me greatly when I watched Akatsuki no Yona for the first time. And every time I watch it again I'm always excited to see her grow and develop.

In the first few episodes, Yona is whiny and spoiled. I honestly didn't really notice it when I first watched it but going back I could not stand her in the first few episodes! She essentially loses everything in her life but she eventually takes her loss as an opportunity for growth. While facing several hardships, she never lets it deter her from her goals. She stays strong, learns to adapt, and becomes a force to be reckoned with.

She blossoms so much and becomes stronger and kinder the more she learns about the world around her. She is constantly fighting to right the wrongs that have been done to her and the people of the kingdom. While I don't necessarily think that I need to learn to fight per say, I just want to learn to be more brave like Yona and stand up for what is right. I want to be able to see the bigger picture in life and help others rather than just worry about what is happening in my life.

。・:*:・゚*•̩̩͙✩•̩̩͙*˚ ˚*•̩̩͙✩•̩̩͙*˚。・:*:・゚。・:*:・゚*•̩̩͙✩•̩̩͙*˚ ˚*•̩̩͙✩•̩̩͙*˚。・:*:・゚。・:*:・゚*•̩̩͙✩•̩̩͙*˚ ˚*•̩̩͙✩•̩̩͙*˚

There are many other characters that I love and have traits that I admire, but these are probably my top 3. These 3 girls are strong in their own way, and all have qualities I either wish I had, or want to improve. Do you have any characters you want to be like?
